The 11th of August 2018 was a bright and memorable day for Young Stars Football Club at the Zengeza 2 grounds as they went away with the Busters Maputi Under-15 Cup.
6 teams took part in the tournament, namely Busters Academy, Farpost, Hearts, Nuggets of Imba, Tadzikamidzi and Young Stars.
Tadzikamidzi and Nuggets of Imba were eliminated in the group stages. Tadzikamidizi lost both their group games to Busters and Farpost respectively. Nuggets of Imba and Hearts were forced to a penalty shoot out to decide the semi final participant from their group as they were both on 1 point. Hearts eventually won by 3 goals to 1.
In the Semi-finals, Busters battled it out with Hearts and won by a goal to nil through a penalty they were awarded in the dying minutes of the second half. On the other hand, Young Stars clashed with Farpost and also won by a goal to nil, thus Busters and Young Stars qualified for the finals.
In the final Young Stars beat Busters by 2 goals to nil. The goals came from beautiful strikes by Leon Takawira and Peace Mudoti, thereby winning the Busters Maputi Under-15 Cup.
The winners were awarded with the trophy and a certificate. Also, all the participating teams had the opportunity to get a maputi hamper, courtesy of Busters Maputi.
The tournament was arranged and fully sponsored by Busters Maputi, as a way of promoting football talents in young people and to allow them showcase their talents to attract sponsorship as there were various possible sponsors at the event.
All teams received a certificate of participation. Awards were also given to outstanding players and these included the Player of the Tournament award, taken by Moreblessing Nyambe and Leon Takawira of Young Stars and the Goalkeeper of the Tournament taken by Wein Warikandwa of Busters.
A member of the organising team, Mr Knowledge Chingwecha had this to say, “As Busters Maputi, we are really glad to host such an event, as our major aim is to promote the talents in the young people and also to motivate them and give them the floor to showcase their talents to the world.”
